Tip 23: Use SharePoint to Research SharePoint

Warning, this may create a space-time paradox, but the risk is worth it because of the payoff!

Also, this tip pertains to all versions of SharePoint and no versions of SharePoint.

I recently seen that the WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 Technical Libraries were updated and available in .chm format from the Microsoft downloads site, here are the links.

This reminded me of one of my tricks that I use to find SharePoint information quickly and keep things organized with the flood of SharePoint articles, white papers and books. I copy these documents to a file share on my home network and have a Search Server 2008 Express server index the documents. This way, when I need information on some particular feature of SharePoint, all I have to do is a search. Of course to index all of the documents in various formats the appropriate iFilter will need to be installed. A quick search with Bing can help track down some free, Shareware, open source and pay options for various iFilters.
